that the creepy animals probably were more afraid of us than the other way around. And so all of us, the animals and we, survived.
The other animals that did come to life, are the names of animals that I connected to the students characters. It started as a joke, but everyone wants to have an animal-name
and we have lots of fun with it.
The two research groups Aids Environment and Oxfam Novib went to Kalimantan, to do research overthere. They really are in the jungle now and who knows what kind of animals and challenges they will meet. Fact is, that he environment over there in that jungle is totally different from
the stony sky-scrapers-jungle in which we now still are in Kuala Lumpur around ' our ' Novotel.
Unfortunately I will leave this group on saturday. My esteemed colleague Christer Guldemond will take my position over and go with the students to Jakarta. I really regret that I have to go but at the same time I think it is very good if the supervising professors will be changed every 10 days to two weeks. I am sure Christer will do a great job as well and at the same time will be
having a great time with the group. Of course I wish him and Joop van Schijndel who will take over the supervision ofthe group after Christer, lots of succes.
Back to business now, where this whole project is meant for:
As said the students collected lots of data. They also made their first steps int bringing them into professional reports. I will have with every group a discussion about the results to finish up this stage of the whole visit here in Kuala Lumpur and to hand everything over in a responsible way to Christer.
On saturday some students will leave for a research in Singapore. But most of them will fly to Jakarta where they will stay for the second chapter of this ARP-2009 project. A project that is a great opportunity for students to learn to deal with applied science. At the same time a great opportunity for all the organizations that the students do research for. I am convinced that they will be more than satisfied about the results. As said before: certainly also because of the tremendous dedication of these students. I myself am looking forward to the presentation already of all the reports in the end-seminar of june 24th for which, as I understood, all of you will be invited.
Before returning to Amsterdam I will be dwelling around a bit in this region here, with its beautiful climate, friendly people and - yes I said it before - sometimes creepy animals.
Good luck and see you around for all those who read this blog.
