What a splendid idea of Margriet to start writing the blog in English! After all the reports also have to be in English and so starting an initiative to swith into English is marvellous.

I added in the title not only the English, but also the native language which is here bahasa Malay and which will be in Indonesia Bahasa Indonesia. The languages are pretty similar. The words that differ the most are herited from the former colonizers. This means that in Malaysia there are more English words and in Indonesia more Dutch words.
The students asked me to write a page in the blog as well and I am pleased to do so. Literally the title means: How are you, teacher? Very good student!
Because this is the feeling that I am having about this trip. I am priviliged to work with a highly motivated enthusdiastic group of students, that act like real professionals. Coming from the appicable consultancy field myself, I dear to say that there are many professionals that can learn a lot of those young students.

Besides the professional aspect, there is also the aspect of being with a group of about 25 people in a country far from home. This is also a challenge. You have to rely on eachother, and this group really does! We (I include myself in this group) also have lots of fun together as you certainly did read already in the former pages. The athmosphere is great!

Today e.g. we went at the end of the afternoon to the Batu caves (batu is the Malay/Indonesian word for 'stone'. There is a Hindu temple and many monkeys are running around freely and grabbing unexpectedly plastic bags with fruits out of the hands of the people. It seems to be a ritual to bring these fruits to those temples where they are meant as sacrifices. The monkeys here seem to have a special position, that more or less even can be considered as ' holy'.

Four of us(Ewout, Alexandra, Terry and I) even went on a special expedition into the cave with a guide. We wore special boots and helmets with lights. We met thousands of 'kakkerlakken', batts, one snake, many centipedes (very big and fast 'duizendpoten')and a rat. And of course many

The ARP is an international research project of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the VU University of Amsterdam in collaboration with Aureus, the study association of the Faculty. We are a group of skilled, ambitious business students in the final years of our study, who will prepare, construct and conduct academic research in emerging markets. This is a part of our Master's of Science curriculum for which we obtain credits. Previous research has been done in, amongst others, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, South-Korea, Argentina, Brasil, India and South Africa. The ARP of 2017 will take place in Indonesia and Myanmar!
